Prayer and Promptings by Boyd K. Packer

Boyd K. Packer
This talk was given by President Boyd K. Packer in the October Semi-Annual General Conference in 2011. His first words are, "No Father would send His children off to a distant, dangerous land for a lifetime of testing where Lucifer was known to roam free without first providing them with personal power of protection. He would also supply them with means to communicate with Him from Father to child and from child to Father." In this he's referring to God, of having us come here to be tested and prayer. Prayer is that conversation with our Father. We talk to him directly through prayer and he speaks back through promptings of the Holy Ghost. He speaks of a few episodes. One was of him when he just barely became part of the Quorum of the 12. He was asked to go to a stake conference somewhere and his cow was about to have a calf. She had it, but she wasn't feeling that great, she couldn't get up. She they had a vet come to come to the conclusion that she had eaten some wire. He was ready to call a processor since she wasn't expected to even last the remainder of the day. Before Boyd K. Packer left, his family said a prayer. He asked for his son to say it. In the prayer his son gave he asked that that the cow would be able to get better. Brother Packer, at that time, thought that he should tell his son that there were some things that prayers wouldn't do. He told people on the trip about the event and once he got back home he found the cow still there just fine. Boyd K. Packer had the thought that it has him that needed to learn something. It's a really great talk It has other events to it. Here's a hyperlink to the talk. I'll still tell one more of this talk. This was about something that happened to a man that was in the Quorum of the 70. He and some others were in China having to go somewhere and caught a train. As they were on it they noticed it took a wrong turn and found they were on the wrong train. They pulled an emergency cord and got off. They found one of those pump carts. They were moving along the rail with one of them and as

they were going down a hill it gained acceleration. The man had to jump onto it and was on for a little while, but then slipped off in the front. He was sliding and his mom's voice went in his head saying, "Bud, you be careful!" his boot came off jammed into the gears and stopped the cart 1 foot from his hand. His mom sent him a letter asking what went wrong and inquired because she woke up at 2 A.M. one morning having a feeling he was in trouble. So she woke her husband up and both prayed. after analyzing data they happened at the exact same time. Two quotes from this from him in this talk were, "Learn to pray. Pray often. Pray in your mind, in your heart.Pray on your knees. Prayer is your personal key to heaven." The other one is a very strong one to keep in mind. "One of the adversary's sharpest tools is to convince us that we are no longer worthy to pray. No matter who you are or what you have done, you can always pray."
